A remarkable example of why we can trust God with our gifts is found in today’s verse the tells of Isaac’s successful year as a farmer. However, the preceding verses reveal why Isaac’s success was so significant. You see, Isaac was farming in the middle of a famine. Bumper crops do not take place in a famine. No crops grow in a famine. The famine was so severe, and Isaac’s crop was so great, that he probably was the only farmer with sufficient crops to sell to others. In a group of golfers, no one will think you are talking about an animal if you mention the name “Tiger”. In a basketball crowd, the name “Shaq” won’t bring about images of a small run-down house. In the business world, the name “Buffet” probably won’t be confused with an all-you-can-eat restaurant. What happens when there is a name that is recognized both in heaven and on earth? God has exalted the name of Jesus above not only everyone but everything. Sickness and disease, poverty and depression are subject to that mighty Name.
