June 27: Rend Your Heart

"So rend your heart, and not your garments; return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness; and He relents from doing harm."
Joel 2:13
“You broke my heart!” It’s a common lament. and sadly, today’s church does not know the meaning of a broken heart. When Joel called Israel to rend their heart, it was to be an act of true repentance, and the result was a broken heart. David said, “the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart” (Psalm 51:17).
Today’s church must discover the meaning of repentance. To be sorry is not enough if you were only sorry because you were caught. To rend your heart means to allow God to examine you and purge you from unrighteousness. To be cleansed is to stand before the “refiner’s fire” (Malachi 3:2)..
Seek God anew today.
Examine yourself and repent of anything that the Holy Spirit shows you. Your heart is the center of your soul, and your soul is the source of your thoughts. Let Jesus create pure thoughts in your mind today.
“Create in me a clean heart."
