Today's Word | Joel Osteen Ministries

Today's Word | Joel Osteen Ministries : Don’t Miss Your Moment Dec 29, 2022 Today’s Scripture Jonah 3:4, NLT On the day Jonah entered the city, he shouted to the crowds: “Forty days from now Nineveh will be destroyed!” Today’s Word God told the prophet Jonah to tell the people of Nineveh that in forty days He was going to destroy their wicked city. God put a time period on it. He was saying, “You have forty days to get your lives right.” He didn’t say, “Whenever you feel like it is okay, just as long as you do it.” When Jonah told the people, they and their king immediately confessed their sorrow and declared a fast of repentance. They didn’t wait a week or twenty days, and God spared the city. Is there something you could change in the next forty days, and you would see God’s favor in a new way? Maybe God is saying, “You have this much time to get your priorities in order, to forgive that person, or to get serious about your relationship with Me.” I don’t know what it is for you,

God’s Concerns Are Our Concerns | International Fellowship of Christians and Jews : God’s Concerns Are Our Concerns Yael Eckstein  |  December 27, 2022 Blessed are those who have regard for the weak;     the LORD delivers them in times of trouble. —Psalm 41:1 One of the founding principles of The Fellowship is God’s eternal promise He made to Abraham in Genesis 12:3, “I will bless those who bless you.” This is one of 12 devotions exploring the concept of blessing, barak, which is so important to both Christians and Jews. The Bible is filled with countless verses about blessings and curses — blessings for obedience, and curses for disobedience. Everyone wants to be the recipient of God’s blessings, but all too often we focus on material blessings — a surprise check in the mail, a bigger house, perhaps a nicer car. While it’s true that God blesses those who He deems worthy, and we all want to be worthy, we need to be careful not to let our desire for blessings turn into selfishness.

Heartbroken Holiday | Joni and Friends

Heartbroken Holiday | Joni and Friends : Hear my prayer, Lord,     listen to my cry for help;     do not be deaf to my weeping. I dwell with you as a foreigner,     a stranger, as all my ancestors were.” Psalm 39:12  “After gathering up torn ribbon and piles of ripped Christmas wrapping, the young mother carried trash out to a back alley. Their traditional Christmas morning had been cut short when her three children said, ‘Hurry up, Mom! We have to be at Dad’s by 10:00 this morning.’ At the beep of his horn, all three raced out the door to repeat the gift-giving scene with their father, his new wife and her two children. They would be there all day and then leave on a trip for the holidays. Suddenly, both house and heart felt alone and desolate. She sat on the warm hearth of the fireplace allowing tears of emotion to run free. Then with an overwhelming sense of loneliness, she cried out to God.” This scene will be repeated countless times during the Christmas season. While the ho

Day 357: How to Live in Hope (Psalm 146:1–10, Revelation 14:14–15:8, Ezra 10:1–44)

Day 357: How to Live in Hope (Psalm 146:1–10, Revelation 14:14–15:8, Ezra 10:1–44) : Psalm 146:1–10 Psalm 146   1 Praise the Lord.   Praise the Lord, my soul.   2 I will praise the Lord all my life;    I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.   3 Do not put your trust in princes,    in human beings, who cannot save.   4 When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;    on that very day their plans come to nothing.   5 Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob,    whose hope is in the Lord their God.   6 He is the Maker of heaven and earth,    the sea, and everything in them—    he remains faithful forever.   7 He upholds the cause of the oppressed    and gives food to the hungry.   The Lord sets prisoners free,    8 the Lord gives sight to the blind,   the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,    the Lord loves the righteous.   9 The Lord watches over the foreigner    and sustains the fatherless and the widow,    but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.   10

The Teaching of Kindness | International Fellowship of Christians and Jews : The Teaching of Kindness Yael Eckstein  |  December 23, 2022 She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness. — Proverbs 31:26 NKJV We continue with devotional thoughts from the Book of Proverbs every Friday. One of the 11 books in the Torah known as the Ketuvim, Hebrew for “writings,” Proverbs is part of the “wisdom tradition,” which also includes Job and Ecclesiastes. Because of the role I play as President and CEO of The Fellowship, I often find myself in very public situations. And I have to tell you, no matter how long I do this, it still makes me anxious. I just don’t like being on display. But as uncomfortable as it is, being in situations where people are watching me actually makes me a better person. Because I know that people will notice, I find myself being extra careful about my behavior. This healthy self-consciousness has become a habit. It’s not only something I d

Thanks to the Maccabees! | International Fellowship of Christians and Jews : Thanks to the Maccabees! Yael Eckstein  |  December 22, 2022 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. —John 4:22 As I’ve mentioned before, the main reason that Hanukkah is such a popular and well-known Jewish festival is that it often coincides with Christmas, as it does this year. And, indeed, there are many similarities between the two observations. Both Hanukkah and Christmas celebrate miracles, and themes of hope and bringing light into the world run through both observances. Many of the decorations for Hanukkah look similar to Christmas decorations as we both use lights to celebrate the holidays. Gift-giving is another tradition that is part of both Christmas and Hanukkah. Many Jewish parents give gifts to their children during Hanukkah, although in Israel, it is more customary to give children “Hanukkah money” as a treat. In my family,

Day 355: God's Hand is On You (Psalm 145:13–21, Revelation 13:1–18, Ezra 7:11–8:14) : Psalm 145:13–21   13 The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises    and faithful in all he does.   14 The Lord upholds all who fall    and lifts up all who are bowed down.   15 The eyes of all look to you,    and you give them their food at the proper time.   16 You open your hand    and satisfy the desires of every living thing.   17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways    and faithful in all he does.   18 The Lord is near to all who call on him,    to all who call on him in truth.   19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;    he hears their cry and saves them.   20 The Lord watches over all who love him,    but all the wicked he will destroy.   21 My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord.    Let every creature praise his holy name    for ever and ever. Psalm Commentary God’s hand is open and generous ‘You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing’ (v.16). This met

Anointed to Defeat Darkness | International Fellowship of Christians and Jews : Anointed to Defeat Darkness Yael Eckstein  |  December 21, 2022 Command the Israelites to bring you clear oil of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning. —Exodus 27:20 This month, my family and I will join Jews around the world in celebrating Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights. Enjoy this collection of my devotional teachings on this festival that Jesus celebrated (John 10:22) and explore the many lessons of faith that this observance has for Christians and Jews alike Hanukkah, like every Jewish festival, has its special traditional foods. And for Hanukkah, the special foods all revolve around oil. For Jews from European backgrounds like myself, the main traditional food is potato latkes. Latkes basically are potato pancakes deep-fried in oil. Most people I know eat them with apple sauce or sour cream. For Sephardic Jews — those from North African or Middle Eastern backgrounds

Joel Osteen (December-20-2022) Daily Devotional: Power to Endure

Joel Osteen (December-20-2022) Daily Devotional: Power to  Power to Endure Dec 20, 2022 Today’s Scripture Luke 22:43, NIV An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. Today’s Word The night before Jesus was crucified, He went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. He knew the suffering He would face. He felt weary, lonely, and so overcome with emotion that His sweat was like drops of blood. Remember that even though Jesus is fully God, He is fully man. He felt everything we have felt. He felt overwhelmed. In that moment when it seemed as though He couldn't go on, God sent an angel to strengthen Him. God knows the weight of what you are carrying. He sees you being your best as you raise the children, fight an addiction, or face the illness. When you run out of strength, don't worry, for angels are coming. Help is on the way. You're going to feel strength that you didn't have, joy when you could be discouraged, hope when you should be depressed. You're goi

Give a Hanukkah Miracle | Donate | International Fellowship of Christians and  Powerless Dec 19, 2022 Today’s Scripture Hebrews 2:14, NASB1995 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil... Today’s Word Two thousand years ago, Jesus defeated the enemy once and for all. The enemy tried his best, but his best could not keep Jesus in the grave. Jesus rendered the devil powerless. Jesus is alive forevermore and holds the keys to death and hell. The enemy has no power over you. He can't keep you from your purpose. The only way he can stop you is if you believe his lies. "Look at all the mistakes you've made. God can't bless you. You've had so many bad breaks that you'll never accomplish your dreams." Don't let lies keep you from the awesome future God has in store. When the enemy's trying to stop you w
