November 6: Follow God

"And Ruth said, “Entreat me not to leave you, or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, And your God, my God."

Ruth 1:16

Ruth was born in Moab and was raised in a perverse heathen home. The Moabites worshipped the god Chemosh and sacrificed their own children to it as an offering (2 Kings 3:27). Ruth was accustomed to witnessing the worst, most barbaric human behavior imaginable.

Meanwhile, a Jewish farmer and his wife, Naomi, left their home in Bethlehem during a time of famine and relocated in Moab. While in Moab, the couple’s two sons married Moabite girls, Ruth and Orpah. After about 10 years, following the deaths of Naomi's husband and sons, news came that Bethlehem was recovering. As Naomi prepared to return to Bethlehem, she encouraged her daughters-in-law to return to their families in Moab. Orpah did as Naomi requested, but Ruth pledged her life to Naomi. Ruth recognized that she had already experienced her past, and she did not like it. Her husband died, and there was nothing left for her in Moab. , Ruth chose not to become bitter and resentful. She realized that we are where we are today because of the choices we made yesterday.

Examine the people who influence you. Do they draw you closer to God or pull you away? Your relationships often determine your choices. Your choices WILL determine your destiny. Ask God to show you to whom you should be connected. Chase hard after God and in the journey, you will meet those who will help you get where God has always wanted you to be – fulfilling His purpose and His plan for your life.

God does not look at where you came from to determine where you are going.
