December 1: Life and Light

"In Him was life, and the life was the light of men."

John 1:4

Have you ever pondered the intense energy and power that was resident in Jesus and emanated from Him? He demonstrated that life in so many extraordinary ways. People were drawn to Him. The life in Him was a light to mankind. He laughed with children. He danced and drank at wedding feasts. He healed the sick. He told fantastic stories. He fiercely hated the hardened hearts of pompous religious people.

But the best part is that after Jesus rose from the dead and ascended to the Father, everyone who believes in Him receives that same life. Think of it! His life is inside you! Anything He did, you can do – and more (John 14:12)! Jesus simply demonstrated that a life of total submission to the Holy Spirit yields a fantastic, powerful, and exciting life.

Don’t be fooled. This is not a cheap gospel. There is a price of submission. That means putting to death your sinful nature and submitting to God’s nature. That price has a purpose: For your treasure in your earthen vessel to shine ever so brightly.

The light of God dispels the darkness.
