January 23: God wants you to dream

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Jeremiah 29:11

When asked about plans for the future, some Christians give super-spiritual answers like, “I’m just trusting the Lord,” or “I’ll do whatever God wants me to do.” While these responses may win you accolades in some circles, they are actually excuses that hinder us rather than propel us. Instead of taking responsibility for our lives, our gifts, and our talents, we put the responsibility on God.

Successfully planning your future requires thought, time, prayer, research, and diligence. Trusting God is a part of the process, but it’s not the whole thing. The first mindset shift is believing that making a plan and trusting God work together, not independently.

Because Jeremiah 29:11 says that God knows the plans He has for us, we think we need to wait until that plan plops into our laps. But when you do an in-depth study of the phrase “give you,” it means that God wants to bestow, grant, permit, yield, produce, or extend. All these words point to one thing—you need to do something to benefit from His plan. If you’re wondering what that something is, it’s to have a plan of your own that agrees with the Word of God. Do you get it?

God wants you to dream!
