After two years, they finished the foundation and had a big celebration. Zerubbabel knew God’s favor was on his life. Everything was falling into place—the building supplies, the workers, the king’s provisions—and they were about to start the next phase when opposition arose. Local enemies of Judah didn’t want the temple rebuilt, so they stirred up trouble to stop it. We all face them at different times in life. Sometimes it’s a financial battle, it can be a family or relationship struggle, or we might be going through a personal conflict in our soul. The truth is, Jesus never promised us a life without trouble or opposition. In fact, He told us we would experience just the opposite. He said that in the world we would have tribulation, distress, and suffering. If we stopped there, we would be pretty discouraged, but Jesus also said that in Him, we could have perfect peace, that we would be courageous, confident, undaunted, and filled with joy because He has overcome the world ( John 16:33 ). So, no matter how difficult our challenges are, if God is with us, we have all we need to win every battle.

In this story, a woman was distraught because she hadn’t received an invitation to a glamorous wedding hosted by a person she thought was her good friend.
