OVER THE PAST few years, many people have asked me a question. Some ask it to try to provoke me into an argument. Others ask it with complete sincerity. That question is, “Do you believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God?” My answer is a simple yes. I believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. I would venture to say that the Bible is the only revealed truth in the world today, because it not only contains the Word of God, but it is the Word of God. We believe that the Word of God is divinely inspired and is the written revelation of God to His people given through spokesmen prepared and selected through the act of inspiration. This means that the Holy Spirit, in choosing a human instrument to write the Word of God, searched the vocabulary of each individual 31 DAYS OF WISDOM FROM GOD Selecting the best word, phrase, or sentence to form the written Word. In other words, the result of the sacred text came from divine inspiration. The Word of God is not only divinely inspired, but it is, as Solomon writes, a shield for those who put their trust in Him. This means that we have to face the powers of darkness and trust in our strength and abilities will always be insufficient. We need a shield to protect us from these powers, and that shield is the Word of God. In it lies the answer to every one of life's problems, and it will provide the path to total and complete victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil. The only defense we have is the cross of Christ, and when our faith is anchored in the finished work of Christ, this allows the Holy Spirit to work within our lives to bring about what is needed. Putting our trust in Him means putting our trust and faith in what Christ accomplished for us on the cross; That is the only way He can be our shield. There is one more point I would like to make. Just as Solomon warns us that God's Word is divinely inspired, he also declares that we are not to add anything to it. Proverbs 30:5-6 What God has already given. There is nothing that adds to what God has established. Not one single thing. The problem begins when a man decides to add or remove something from what God has said. God's Word is the ultimate and there is nothing we can add to improve it. God's Word needs no improvement, and by removing or adding something to His Word, we are exposed as liars.■ RUBEN REFLECTIONS: 129
