GIFTED TO SERVE
READING: DAILY
Romans 12:3-13
pleasing and perfect.
3;For I say, through the grace given to me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to each man the measure of faith.
4;For as in one body we have many members, and all the members do not all have the same function,
5;so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
6;Having then, according to the grace given unto us, gifts differing, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the measure of faith.
7;Or if ministry, let us minister; or he that teacheth, let us teach.
8;He who exhorts, in exhortation; He who distributes, with liberality; He who presides, with diligence; He who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
9;Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil, pursue what is good. 10;Be kind to one another with brotherly love; in honor, preferring one another.
11;In diligence, not lazy; fervent in spirit, serving the Lord;
12;Joyful in hope; patient in tribulation; constant in prayer;
13;Sharing in the needs of the saints; practicing hospitality.
1-CORINTHIANS 12-6
Now there are diversities of operations, but God, who works all things in all, is the same.
THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Leviticus 21-22
Matthew 28
One day, I noticed that my right foot does all the pedal work when I drive my automatic car: it presses the accelerator and brake by itself. My left foot is inactive. What if I decided that, to be fair, my left foot replaces my right foot half the time? If you've never done this, please don't try it!
If we don't demand such equality from our body members, why do we sometimes expect this from church people? Apparently, it was an issue facing the church in Rome in the 1st century. Some considered themselves more important than they should be (Romans 12:3) because they performed some tasks that others didn't. But Paul reminds us that “not all members have the same function” (v. 4), that we have been gifted according to God’s grace (v. 6), and that He gave us those gifts to serve others and not ourselves (vv. 6-13). Diligence and fervor must characterize our work, because we serve the Lord and not men (v. 11). R
So let us not spy on others to see what they do or do not do. See how God can use you in His kingdom today. He has gifted you exactly as He wanted (v. 3).
Lord, lead me as you see fit.
Use the gifts you have given me to encourage others. May I not compare myself with others and may I be satisfied with what you have made of me.
In God’s orchestra, each one plays his part, but harmony must be maintained.
