Una de las historias más famosas del Libro del Génesis, es el sueño de Jacob donde los ángeles suben y bajan una escalera al cielo. Comienza con estas palabras: “Y llegó a cierto  lugar  y durmió allí, porque ya el sol se había puesto” (Gen. 28:11).
