Dear Ruben Dario,

Many times, pain comes from our fear of man and the emotional and physical damage they can cause us. Yes, we must confront the reality of the pain we have endured from people in our lives, but God wants us to view this pain in the context of the bigger picture – eternity.

If we put our trust in Jesus, God has adopted us into His family, bringing us the love and comfort we so innately desire. Here it is explained more deeply in Romans:

“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” – Romans 8:14-16

Instead of living in fear because of what has been done to us (and what could be done to us again), we should instead cry out to God, pleading for His grace and love to wash over us and cover all past sins and injustices.

This is a difficult thing to ask, especially when wounds are still raw and very real, but God is able to heal anything you can imagine. Come to His feet and enter His rest.

This week’s prayer: Lord, please enter into my pain and provide the comfort I know only you can bring. Amen.
